Activities Of The Department

Departmental activities

Department of Pharmacognosy has been engaged in pharmacognostic evaluation for the study of morphological characters and micrometry, phytochemistry involving isolation and characterization of phytoconstituents.

  1. Academic activities
  • Regular conduct of theory and practical classes using charts, biological models and modern skills like LCD or LED projectors, smart boards, etc. as per the RGUHS / PCI prescribed syllabus.
  • Tutorials, group discussions, seminars and mentorship to inspire students to develop their confidence.
  • Internal assessments, slip tests and conduct of improvement exams to bring up the slow learners.
  1. Practical skill development activities
  • Use of microtome device method to obtain good sections of plant parts for their transverse sections.
  • To train students for learning quantitative microscopic methods to determine the stomatal No. palisade ratio, No. of starch grains, etc.
  • To demonstrate the technique of using chromatographic methods like thin layer, column, HPLC and HPTLC methods for isolation of phytoconstituents.
  1. Student-centric activities
  • Student care committee involving anti-ragging committee, girl students incharge, separate mentorship programmes, etc. for the protection and welfare of students.
  • Conduct of campus interviews, career guidance and counseling, quiz competitions, inter collegiate and university sports and other competitions, conferences, GPAT training, industry visit for final semester students.

Program Outcomes

  1. B Pharm – 4 Years (8 Semester)

  2. D Pharm – 2 Years

  3. Pharm. D  – 6 Years

  4. Ph D Programme

Future Plans

Future plans

Department of Pharmacognosy aims to impart skills like pharmacognostic, phytochemistry standardization of medicinal plants and explore their wide therapeutic applications and to develop them as herbal dosage forms that find an important place in the field of pharmaceutical science owing to their less harmful effects compared to allopathic healing agents. To motivate the staff and students by involving them in funded research, getting patents, publications, participation in conferences. To involve interdisciplinary, interdepartmental research projects to innovate new useful research work in the field of pharmaceutical field.
